How to record a Chrome tab with audio
Kapture can record the tab you are on, including the audio playing in it, and add your voice from the microphone if you choose.
Steps
- Open the tab you want to record.
- Press
Ctrl + Shift + 5(Cmd + Shift + 5on Mac), or choose record tab in the Kapture popup. - Turn on the microphone switch in the popup first if you want to narrate. It is off by default.
- A small bar appears on the page with a timer, a stop button and discard.
- Click stop when you are done. The recording opens in the editor and is saved to your library.
What to know
- Length: a single recording is limited to five minutes.
- Format: MP4 when your browser supports it, otherwise WebM.
- Audio: tab audio is recorded from the tab you chose. Microphone audio is only added when the microphone switch is on, and Chrome may ask for permission.
- Recording the whole screen: choose record screen in the popup to capture a window or your full screen. Chrome shows its own picker for that.
- Stopping from Chrome: if you press Chrome’s own “Stop sharing” control, Kapture saves what was recorded so far.
Privacy
The video never leaves your device unless you export it. Temporary recording pieces are removed once the recording is saved or discarded. Read the privacy details.
Chrome does not allow tab recording on internal pages such as chrome:// pages.
